2022 MHIQ/HPS Seminar - Session 1: Griffith Enterprise (GE) Consultancy and Contractual Research

Mr Aaron Isted's session will focus on generating awareness around 1) the role of Griffith Enterprise (GE), 2) the who, what, where, why and how of Consultancy and Contract Research activity, 3) the internal process, 4) IP and Commercialisation, and 5) how GE can help. It is our hope that individuals will finish the session with a deeper understanding of CCR activity and its importance within the university, combined with a greater awareness of the internal support mechanisms available.

2022 GCORE/SHS Lecture - Computational Modelling to Predict the Progression of Knee Osteoarthritis

Dr Amir Esrafilian discusses the development of multiscale neuromusculoskeletal finite element modelling and simulation workflows to estimate person- and task-specific knee cartilage mechanics governing tissue degradation response. Analyzing different functional activities and gait modifications, the developed computational models demonstrated the potential to assist clinicians in designing tailored rehabilitation and gait modifications to prevent or postpone mechanically induced KOA.

2022 MHIQ/GCORE Seminar - Personalised Neuro-musculoskeletal modelling

Dr Luca Modenese will present some recent technical developments that his group has achieved for generating, in a fully automated way, accurate models of the musculoskeletal system of individuals from standard medical images. Building on that, he will present a motoneuron driven model of the neuromuscular control that his group has recently developed using spike trains of motor units obtained from decomposition of high-density electromyographic recording as input.

2022 MHIQ/Clinical Trial Unit Seminar - Australian Teletrial Program ATP and QRCCC

Melanie Poxton and Khan Redzwan Habib will provide information about the Australian Teletrial Program (ATP) and that the grant supports all sixteen Hospital and Health services in Queensland. They will explain how patients in Queensland now have access to clinical trials closer to home and that by using the ATP model this allows such a broad service. The ATP model has the potential to Close the Gap in health outcomes for all Queenslanders.

2022 HPS/PCHS Seminar - Attracting Category 1 Grant Funding in Australia

Dr Jesse Young will provide an overview of the current Category 1 funding landscape, focussing on the National Health and Medical Research Council and the Medical Research Future Fund. Drawing on his experience as a successful applicant and an evaluation panel member, Dr Young will highlight several strategic ways to improve the impact of fellowship and project-based grant applications in these funding schemes. Examples from prior grant submissions will be provided and discussed.

2022 MHIQ Lecture Series - Integration of Research into the Health System

Establishment of Academic Health Centres is dependent on the integration of Hospital and University interests. Using the Alfred Health/Monash University partnership as the paradigm, Professor Jane will discuss the evolution of this relationship, and how it has culminated in substantial growth in research, commercial and philanthropic funding, physician-scientist training, clinical trial activity and academic leadership within the hospital corridors.
