"The slow painter openly courts time as a partner in the process of distributing paint on a canvas.'
- Stephen Westfall, Slow Painting
Courting Time explores the slowness of painting: the idea that the time invested by the artist in making a work, and the viewer in experiencing it, becomes implicit in every painting. The marks on a painting's surface record the persistence of the hand of the artist and become a visual representation of time.
