This seminar will introduce a new Australian Research Council funded project exploring the role of First Nations' music as a health determinant.

The project aims to identify the ways that First Nations' musicians and music facilitators can help promote positive health determinants such as access to culture, and address negative health determinants such as racism, social exclusion, and poor mental health.

The project supports national and international calls for First Nations-led, strengths based, and culturally safe health and well-being responses.

This seminar will feature reflections on anti-oppressive and arts-based research methodology and pilot research findings on how First Nations' musicians and music facilitators from Vanuatu and Australia think about and value music across the domains of individual wellbeing, family, community, and international connections.
