Ready Steady Panic Stations

Many of us spend far too much time considering the power we wield in our own lives and communities. How can I get people to like me? How can I affect political change? What would I do if I was in charge? Why do I feel the need to control everything? When did I get so out of control? Art seeks not to answer these questions, but to explore and unpack them. For some artists, creative expression is an attempt to impose control onto viewers by presenting one vision of reality. For others, art is a form of catharsis or reflection - ultimately a means of letting go.

"Ready Panic Stations' showcases the work of 13 Brisbane-based artists exploring the idea of control through their own distinct practices, and in a variety of different mediums. As the show is being organised, curated, and funded by the artists themselves, it reflects the importance of the artist's voice and their control over the exhibition of their works.

So, how DO we manage a world, a pandemic, a community, a culture, a life, and ultimately a mind, of ongoing uncertainty? Do we panic? Do we adapt? Do we work harder to influence our surroundings, or do we willingly relinquish control?
