QCA Thursdays: 12 January 2023

Join us for the first QCA Thursdays of 2023! We invite you to join us on 12th January from 5.30pm at 226 Grey Street, South Bank for QCA Thursdays, a series of QCA Galleries opening events that seek to broaden the art experience.

QCA Thursdays are a space for the presentation and interpretation of contemporary visual arts and design practice, and a site for gathering, conversation and learning.

ᴡᴇʙʙ ɢᴀʟʟᴇʀʏ | Embodied Memory: Sean Williams

This body of work examines the role that unarchived records, in the form of discarded objects, can play in reshaping those narratives, and how these stories can be subtly influenced. I am presenting colonial period objects as receptacles of memory that possess the potential to offer us alternate histories. They transcend the boundaries of time by capturing traces of the past as physical manifestations that can activate memories and shape narratives in the present.

ɢʀᴇʏ ꜱᴛʀᴇᴇᴛ ɢᴀʟʟᴇʀʏ | DENIED: Sky Parra

In collaboration with metropolitan and regional communities, and leading legal scholar Dr Robert Moles, Sky Parra depicts those wrongfully convicted of serious crimes across Australia.
Representing the innocent as they need to be seen; as people who have been harmed by the system that ought to have protected them, DENIED aims to explore profound displacement and vulnerability. Utilising the humanising agency of paint, Parra renders sensitive works from face-to-face sittings to hold space for exchange and restore individuals' dignity.

ᴘʀᴏᴊᴇᴄᴛ ɢᴀʟʟᴇʀʏ | An Introspective: Kevin Marriage

This exhibition is about the loss of biodiversity and the resultant cost to us all, (especially the creatures who lose their homes and food source). The methodology is erasure drawing on plaster, using simple pigments and materials which are plentiful and recyclable. The aim is to create awareness of the beauty we are losing.
