Principal speaker

The Honourable Lisa Singh

The current momentum in the Australia India relationship lends to both nations being well placed to cooperate and add value to building a resilient Pacific, to not only contribute to stability and prosperity for Pacific Islanders but for India to reinforce its status as a global power. Over the last decade, India's interests and activities with Pacific Island Countries (PICs) have grown on geopolitical, economic, environmental and development fronts. At the same time, Australia has renewed a deep commitment to building a stronger Pacific family. This presentation will explore the importance of Australia-India cooperation amidst the current geopolitical competition in the Pacific Islands region. It will further explore how a regional partnership that addresses Pacific Island priorities can address the broader dimensions facing the Indo-Pacific region. Drawing on her own Indo-Fijian heritage, Lisa Singh will also share perspectives on India's historical ties to the Pacific and how these people-to-people linkages can give India a unique advantage.
