90 Seconds to Midnight: Matthew Newkirk

90 Seconds to Midnight: Matthew Newkirk

90 Seconds to Midnight is a solo exhibition by artist Matthew Newkirk and is the culmination of his research during his PhD Fine Art candidature. Newkirk's knowledge champions the use of art and creative practice as a platform to inform, instigate critical dialogue and bring about positive change.

The context of this exhibition is our contemporary society, specifically our capitalist society, and the way in which media and information are delivered to us.

Newkirk's works utilise the same familiar materials, techniques and delivery used in news media and successful commercial advertising to critique wanton capitalism and the commodification of visual art. He asks the viewer to question our reliance on technological media platforms and the devices that facilitate their use.

Proudly supported by Brisbane Art Design Festival and Aether Brewing.
