Join us for an insightful conversation as Rowan Callick interviews Steve Tsang on his latest book, The Political Thought of Xi Jinping, co-authored with Olivia Cheung. This event will delve into the profound influence of Xi's "Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era" on China's political, economic, and social landscape, and on its heightened global ambition. Xi's Thought, the first such formulation since Mao Zedong to be elevated to such a high status, has taken a central place in Chinese education, its study also required by decision makers at every level. Xi's intense focus on ideology, encapsulated in his Thought, has far-reaching implications for China and the world, shaping the nation's aspirations toward the "China Dream of national rejuvenation" by 2050.

Steve Tsang is Professor of China Studies and Director of the China Institute, SOAS, London. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and an Emeritus Fellow of St Antony's College at Oxford. He previously served as the Head of the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies and as Director of the China Policy Institute at the University of Nottingham. Before that he spent 29 years at Oxford University, where he earned his D.Phil. and worked as a Professorial Fellow, Dean, and Director of the Asian Studies Centre at St Antony's College. He has a broad area of research interest and has published extensively, including five single authored and fourteen collaborative books. His latest book (with Olivia Cheung) The Political Thought of Xi Jinping is published by Oxford University Press earlier this year. He is currently working on a new project: "China's Global Strategy under Xi Jinping'.

Rowan Callick is an industry fellow at Griffith University's Asia Institute, with extensive experience as China Correspondent and Asia-Pacific Editor for both the Australian Financial Review and The Australian. An expert associate at the National Security College of the Australian National University, he serves on advisory boards for the National Foundation for Australia China Relations, La Trobe Asia, and Melbourne University's Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies. He has authored three books on contemporary China, published in both English and Chinese.

Moderated by Susan Trevaskes, Acting Director of the Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research (GCSCR). An expert in Chinese criminal justice, governance, and law, Susan has secured over $1.4 million in external grants and has published extensively on Chinese justice. Her work includes books on criminal courts, policing crime and the death penalty and she has published numerous papers in prestigious journals such as The China Journal and The British Journal of Criminology. Currently, she leads an ARC grant on "China's Governance Revolution,' exploring comprehensive governance efforts in China.

This event promises to offer a deep and nuanced understanding of Xi Jinping's ideological contributions and their implementation, providing valuable insights into China's current and future trajectory.
