Memento aims to explore the associations we subconsciously project onto or evoke from inanimate objects. Playing on ideas of traditional Vanitas Still Life works which rely on metaphor and allegory to entice the viewer into more careful consideration of the artist's choices in regards to subject. This exhibition is similarly interested in taking the traditional subject of Still Life and expressing contemporary stories and experiences through symbolism and allegory.
Memento refers to how an object can draw a person back to a different time, place or experience. The works in this exhibition will also look to draw from the idea that the objects we have around us are signifiers for the type of people we are and what we value.
