Dr Caroline Riot
Moderator: Dr Caroline Riot Dr Riot is the Director, Games Partnerships and Engagement with the Griffith University Office of the Vice President Industry and External Engagement. She leads the university’s Games impact and legacy strategy for the Brisbane 2032 Games. Caroline is building partnerships with key external organisations for impact, acting as the conduit for Olympic and Paralympic related activities, and continues her Olympic Movement research in high performance sport and sports diplomacy particularly in Oceania. As a pro-active leader of partnerships across universities, industry, and government, Caroline is a highly engaged researcher in international high performance sport in developed and developing countries with a focus on elite athlete and coach development, para-sport, and women's well-being through sport and physical activity. Caroline prides herself on transdisciplinary approaches to solve challenges and is widely published in highly ranked journals. Prior to her academic career, Caroline worked with the Queensland Police Service, International Sport Unit of the Queensland Government, the International Olympic Committee as project lead for an internationally funded grant across 8-countries, and represented Australia twice at International Olympic Academy forums in Olympia, Greece. Panellists: Leata Alaimoana: Queensland Trade Commissioner An accomplished executive with extensive Australian and international experience in leadership, executive management, government relations, project and service delivery, Leata Alaimoana was appointed Queensland Trade Commissioner for the Pacific in March 2023. Leata began her career within the Investment Attraction Unit with what was then Queensland Department of State Development in 2002. The last two decades has taken Leata through a variety of management and leadership roles in the Queensland and Federal Governments, Pacific Islands, Sunshine Coast City Council, and Aviation Australia. During her time with Pacific Trade Invest Australia she facilitated over $33 million in investments across the Pacific Island region, creating economic opportunities while delivering positive social outcomes for communities. Leata is a non-executive Director on the Boards of Good Return and Exemplar International Development Kerry Petersen: Chief Impact Officer, Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee Kerry is the Chief Impact Officer for Brisbane 2032 and is responsible for key partnerships including government relations, para-integration, sustainability, impact and legacy, First Nations and human rights. Kerry has an excellent reputation for forging productive stakeholder relationships and partnerships in complex operating environments. She brings over 32 years of public sector and major event experience including delivery of many significant public infrastructure programs and projects. Kerry's previous role was as the Associate Director-General of the Games Taskforce within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, where she was responsible for leading the Queensland Government’s engagement in all activities associated with the successful candidature for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Adrine Monagi: Athlete and Aspiring Business Professional Adrine Monagi, from Morobe and Oro, Papua New Guinea, is an accomplished athlete and aspiring business professional currently studying for a Bachelor of Business at Griffith University under a three-year Business & Athletics Scholarship. With a strong background in international athletics, including appearances at the Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games, and World Championships, Adrine has transitioned from heptathlete to sprints and hurdles, becoming the current Pacific Mini Games 100m Hurdles Champion. Building on her previous studies in Security Studies at Angelo State University, she now focuses on Financial Crime Investigation and Compliance, aiming to blend her passion for sport with a future career in the high-demand fields of intelligence and investigation. Georgia-Leigh Vele: Rising Talent in High-Performance Sports Georgia-Leigh Vele is a dedicated Papua New Guinean swimmer and an emerging talent in the world of high-performance sports. She has represented her country at multiple international competitions, including the 2018, 2019, 2022 Long Course, 2022 Short Course, 2023, and 2024 World Championships, as well as the 2015 and 2019 Pacific Games, the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and the 2024 Olympics. At the 2023 Pacific Games, she won a medal, and she is a five-time medalist at the 2024 Oceania Championships. Georgia-Leigh, from Kalo village in the Central Province of Papua New Guinea, is the second generation in a family of four brothers who have also represented PNG in swimming. She graduated from Griffith University in 2022, completing a Bachelor's degree in Sport and Exercise Science while competing at the Commonwealth Games. Passionate about transforming athletes into their best selves, she leverages her skills, experience, and knowledge to make a positive impact in the world of sports.
