Book Launch | Native Plants for School Gardens in South-East Queensland
The South-East Queensland Bioregion is a biodiversity treasure, home to around 4,500 native plants. But which of these thrive best in local and school gardens?
Join us as we launch an exciting new book that answers this question. Created with contributions from native plant and landscaping experts, the book features stunning images and practical details about 80 native plants ideal for school gardens in our region. This is a culmination of a dedicated Work Integrated Learning project by Brendon Kelly, under the guidance of Professor Catherine Pickering, and is the latest instalment in the Griffith University Biodiversity Book Series.
Griffith University is proud to be at the forefront of sustainability, with 9 hectares of native gardens containing over 250 plant species on our Gold Coast campus alone. Drawing inspiration from these gardens, we bring you a resource to help enrich school grounds and nurture a connection with nature.
Complimentary copies of the book will be available at the launch and each school attending will receive a sample of these species to add to existing gardens. You will also hear from special guest Glenn Leiper, co-author of Mangroves to Mountains and former Principal of Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centre. Glenn will share his insights on the powerful impact of nature on children's learning and well-being. Don't miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate our local biodiversity.
