Tossing and Turning: Liam Johnston

Tossing and Turning is a photographic installation by QCAD Alum Liam Johnston that merges ready-made objects with images to explore the liminal space between rest and unrest, both fleeting and perpetual. Framed through a distinctly Australian lens, the work navigates the suburban gothic and the banal, extending a visual vocabulary rooted in deadpan aesthetics toward a speculative language of death and intimacy.

Evolving from a documentary practice into a contemporary photo-poetic mode, the project resists flatness. Instead, it engages the image as both surface and threshold, where object, viewer, and installation coalesce. In doing so, it stages the death of an experience while simultaneously proliferating its echoes.
