Pronatal spermicide is a group exhibition from QCAD students Bailey Abbato Tanika "TJ" Jones that explores a world in which we live the greatest dreams of millionaires and politicians. Using rent economy and getting married at first sight. Welcome to the great future. Your dreams are our dreams. Job and housing market is our greatest joy.
Bailey Abbato is a multidisciplinary artist working in construction objects that could only exist in the stages that we are existing together now. Playing with colour, form and texture as a language to talk about themes of living in a post-modern western society is a focus of her work and how we navigate and integrate to rules with and without our conscious knowledge.
Tanika "TJ" Jones is a young queer artist working on stolen Jagera and Turrbal country. TJ uses second hand materials and found items to explore themes of identity and community throughout their sculptural works. Identity is shaped by the community around us, but it is also shaped by the external pressure's society places onto us all. TJ`s sculptural works ask us to take a step back and appreciate ourselves for exactly who we are, warts and all.
