Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL)

Description

Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) refers to the conscious and planned use of technology in learning and teaching.

Overview

Sometimes known as Technology Enhanced Learning or Technology Enabled Learning, in practice TEL is about making use of technology in an engaging and relevant way in your teaching; and enabling your students to the same in their learning.

Considerations

Incorporating the use of technology into your teaching practice can help improve engagement with an increasingly digitally literate cohort, offer a variety of unique learning activities, and put you at the   forefront of twenty-first century education. You may already be incorporating technology into your teaching practice without knowing it, for example, through the use of your Learning@Griffith site and Lecture Capture. But there are many other technologies available beyond these that can put you even further ahead and cement your place as an   exceptional teacher.

It is, however, acknowledged that familiarising yourself with new technology may require an initial commitment of time. This site aims to ease that pressure by introducing common technologies and their uses, explaining some of the considerations to bear in mind when using technology, and providing a glossary of common technology terms that you may encounter when exploring new technologies.

The following considerations should be kept in mind:

  • Copyright - consider the importance of copyright compliance obligations
  • Accessibility - ensure learning design considers the needs of all those who need to access it
  • Equipment - determine what equipment might be needed to access your content
  • Guides and Policies - review relevant policies and guides
  • Connectivity - consider how you and your students will connect both on and off campus

Enabling Technology

An introduction to the technologies you may encounter when getting started with Technology Engaged Learning includes the following;
