Course Convenor: Writing effective course learning outcomes that are SMART (OLE)

Description

This Online Learning Experience explores the importance of intentionally designing course learning outcomes that are specific, measurable, action-oriented, relevant and time-framed.

Overview

Student learning is enhanced when course-level learning goals are articulated and made visible. Explicitly stated intended course learning outcomes provide students with learning targets to work towards and also assists staff with designing “with the end in mind”. The most effective course learning outcomes are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-framed (SMART).

  1. Identify the conventions of an effective course learning outcome
  2. Write SMART course learning outcomes

  1. Create your course learning outcomes using the Course Learning Outcomes Builder
  2. Revise your Course Profile and submit it for approval.
