GUAVR - Griffith University Alliance for Virtualised Realities: Virtual, Mixed, Augmented & Extended Reality User Group

Description

GUAVR - Griffith University Alliance for Virtualised Realities.

Created to bring together the diverse fields developing virtual, mixed, augmented & extended realities at Griffith University

The group meets 3- 4 times per year and is open to staff.

Overview

The GUAVR group (Griffith University Alliance for Virtualised Realities) was created mid 2016 to begin to make sense of the exploding world of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR) and other 'Realities' as they emerge. The group meets every three to four months (depending on trimester times and the memberships' anticipated capacity to attend) to try and round up the extraordinary work being done here at Griffith. Most meetings feature a guest speaker, reports from the various school representatives, a wrap of new and emerging technologies along with introductions and networking over the provided refreshments.

The group is open to all staff who are immersive reality practitioners, just developing their skills, or are exploring how to add it into their learning and teaching. Students with a demonstrated expertise are also welcome when invited by a current member.

Considerations

The GUAVR group meets every 3 to 4 months at rotating locations in order to include all campuses. The group meets usual around 1 - 3 pm and refreshments are provided to better enable some staff to attend.

No prior knowledge of producing or designing for immersive realities is required, in fact we encourage those about to embark on a project to come along and see what else has already been achieved within the University. The group welcomes all questions, but is not, itself, a workshop on how to create these realities.

The group is mainly intended for staff, but students may be invited by staff who identify students with a level of expertise from which the group might benefit.
