Description
This guide provides context and support for using VoiceThread for Oral/Video Presentations. VoiceThread is available via Learning@Griffith and integrated with the Marks Centre. VT assignments are easily and quickly graded online via VoiceThread.
Overview
VoiceThread offers a natural online interaction that lends itself to students presenting & defending their work before experts and peers.
Educause Learning Initiative
VoiceThread allows presenters to create presentations one slide at a time, which means that they can create their presentations and add narration when it best suits their schedule prior to submission. Students can augment presentations with commentary, multiple media types and ‘doodling’ or marking up the content as they speak to it allowing for optimum creativity.
Consider providing an Ice-breaker VoiceThread activity to Orient Students.
Presentation Assessment & in-context Feedback
VoiceThread makes it easy to thoroughly analyze and comment on issues within the context of a VT presentation (video, PPT + more). To do this, instructors can provide in-video text/video/audio feedback while the video or presentation is playing. The student/presenter receives the comments regarding their performance in-context as they watch their presentation
Considerations
USING VOICETHREAD FOR ASSESSMENT PURPOSES?
New Voicethread Assignments enhancements were released 23rd Nov, 2020. To see these enhancements visit the VoiceThread 'New Assignments' guide.
Rubrics
VT does not integrate with Academic Integrity Systems or RubricsWorkaround in placeSome Academics are doing rubric work using other cloud-based applications such as Microsoft excel/word etc. and providing a link to that students rubric as part of a ‘text comment’ in VoiceThread
Using VoiceThread in your Teaching Practice may contribute to the following L&T alignments:
Academic Plan 2017-2021 - Personalised & Active Learning
GLTC (Griffith Learning & Teaching Capabilities) Framework - 'Optimising technologies to support learning'
Enabling Technology
Important - Always access your VT Links via Learning@Griffith to avoid account conflict.
A VoiceThread Mobile Application is also available; however, the assignment link should still be accessed via your Learning@Griffith Course.
You and your Students will need access to the following to undertake creation of a VT:
- Laptop, phone or pad with camera and microphone access
- PC with USB microphone or camera
Implement
VoiceThread Use-cases and aligned VT Types
I would like my students to submit comments back to my VoiceThread as a presentation, so I can properly assess their understanding and presentation skills etc.
> In this case you are asking students to ''submit a comment' type of VoiceThread, and you will assign your own created VT as the assignment to comment on.
I would like my students to submit a VT so I can ensure they are (1) who they say they are, and (2) to assess their presentation skills and knowledge
> In this use-case you are asking students to 'submit a VoiceThread' type of VoiceThread Assignment
