VoiceThread at Griffith | 10 things you should know

Description

This Guide provides a list of 10 Things you should know about using VoiceThread (VT) at Griffith. VT is a tool for enhancing communications online via the creation, sharing and commenting of VTs integrated directly with your L@G Course.

Overview

  1. Access VT via Learning@Griffith
    • to ensure no account conflicts
  2. VTs you've created can be repurposed
    • Copy the VT and select ‘no’ to comments
  3. VT is integraded with L@G Marks Centre & My Marks
    • VT Assignments (3 types) can be created
  4. VT Assignments can be graded online & reminders can be sent
    • feedback can be added directly in context.
    • You can check VT to see who has engaged and send a reminder to those who haven’t. submitted. Great for Introductions to the Course.
  5. VTs can be easily embedded
    • Any HTML environment that accepts embed eg. PebblePad
  6. VTs can be added to an Adaptive Learning Sequence
    • A created VT Assignment creates a Course link. You can add this like any other content item into adaptive learning sequences using the 'Adaptive Release tool.
  7. You can Scaffold the use of VT with your cohort
    • Try an Ice-Breaker activity first eg. 'Get to know each other'
    • Create a 'submit a comment' assignments to check knowledge retention
    • Have students 'create a VT'  presentation Assignment 
  8. You can check the duration of a VT or a VT Comment
    • Handy if assessing assignment criteria
  9. VT supports attainment of the following Griffith Graduate Attributes:
    • Effective communicators and collaborators.
    • Innovative, creative and entrepreneurial.
  10. VT use may enhance your Griffith Learning & Teaching Capabilities
    • GLTC (Griffith Learning & Teaching Capabilities) Framework

Rubrics

VT does not integrate with Academic Integrity Systems or RubricsWorkaround in placeSome Academics are doing rubric work using other cloud-based applications such as Microsoft excel/word etc. and providing a link to that students rubric as part of a ‘text comment’ in VoiceThread

VoiceThread is a communication and collaboration tool at heart, this means all activities are covered by the Social Media Guidelines, a part of the Griffith University Code of Conduct, and online etiquette is paramount.
