Renee, who graduated last year with a Bachelor of Business, is now working for Volunteering Gold Coast as the Youth and Events Coordinator and will be representing one of more than 35 organisations at the event, held today (April 3).
Renee said when she attended the Careers Day as a student she got a lot out of it.
“For a student it’s great to be able to see what companies are around and what they’re looking for. It was also good to get information for making decisions about where to go and what subjects to do for possible future employment,” Renee said.
This year Renee will be one of the recruiters and offer information and advice based on her own experiences.
“We’re here to recruit anyone who wants to learn more and gain skills in any of their chosen fields. Our aim is to recruit students who will be able to aid our not-for-profit member organisations in doing things such as helping to organise fundraisers,” Renee said.
“We’ll be looking to get dedicated students to put in positions and give them responsibility in organising events, marketing, web design and many other areas. It’s about creating opportunities and getting the students taking that next step towards having the career they’ve always wanted.”
Renee started as a volunteer with the company.
“I came to Volunteering Gold Coast firstly on a contract as National Youth Week Coordinator for the Gold Coast region. I was in the office doing my work and they decided to keep me on to continue work within the youth sector, events and engaging young people,” Renee said.
Careers Day organiser Fazila Essack said the Day was expected to attract more than 350 students.
“The annual Careers Day is a popular event. Many of the major organisations from the tourism industry will be represented, most by their HR Directors and HR Managers,” Fazila said.
“Leading hotel chains, including the Marriott, Rydges Hotels and Resorts and the Hyatt will all be attending to promote and recruitment for their Management Development Programs.
“The Day provides a great opportunity for employers and students to meet and chat about employment opportunities, casual positions and opportunities for Work Integrated Learning, or work experience opportunities while studying.”
The event will be held at the Southport Sharks Function Centre from 1pm to 4.30pm and is hosted in conjunction with Southern Cross University.
