Women not recommended

Leading Austrade commissioner and Griffith graduate Kylie Hargreaves delivers the keynote address at the Griffith Business School Alumni Network dinner later this month, inspired by a sexist 1963 missive that women could never be trade commissioners.

Ms Hargreaves has certainly rebutted the memo entitled, ‘women not recommended’, written by a chief member of Austrade’s equivalent in 1963. She is currently Austrade’s Senior Trade Commissioner for UK, Ireland, Israel and Mauritius and formerly the Trade Commissioner for West USA.

Her address will highlight the factors Australians need to consider when doing business overseas.

Kylie will share personal insights into her experiences with Austrade and provide a valuable view of the world of international trade and Australia’s place in a global setting.

She will also talk about her experiences as a senior manager who has seen the change in emphasis from recognition based on individual achievements to achieving through collaboration with others.

Also at the dinner the inaugural Griffith Business School Outstanding Alumnus Award will be presented, which recognises the remarkable achievements and success of a Griffith Business School alumnus.

Griffith Business School Alumni spokesperson Joanne Nyland said the dinner provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the achievements of outstanding graduates, both through the keynote address and via the Outstanding Alumnus award.

“The dinner provides the opportunity for Griffith Business School graduates, staff and friends to interact and celebrate our achievements,” Ms Nyland said.

“It also provides an opportunity to profile graduates, graduate outcomes and the potential of current students to be excellent employees, as well as a medium to applaud our alumni.”

The dinner will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Stamford Plaza Hotel, Brisbane on Friday, October 26 from 6.30pm. Tickets are $100 for Alumni and $120 for non-alumni. A table of ten is also available for $1,000.

Bookings for the annual dinner are essential and can be made at www.griffith.edu.au/gbsalumni by Friday, October 19.
