Vice Chancellor Professor Ian O’Connor said he was delighted to accept the donation on behalf of the University.
“Through the Triguboff Foundation, Mr Triguboff has become well-known for his philanthropy and we are pleased to benefit from this generosity,” Professor O’Connor said.
“The important work the Institute for Glycomics does in their quest to help find solutions to diseases such as cancer, arthritis and brain disorders, as well as infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, means both the local and international community will benefit from this contribution.”
The Institute for Glycomics is one of only six centres in the world developing carbohydrate-based drugs to fight cancer and multi-drug resistant bacterial and viral diseases.
Mr Triguboff is Chief Executive Officer of Meriton, one of Australia’s biggest property developers, and is synonymous with residential developments, particularly on the Gold Coast and in the Sydney CBD.
“It is a pleasure to be able to contribute to the local community which has played such a big role over the years in both my business and personal dealings,” Mr Triguboff said.
“The Gold Coast is my home away from home, and I am proud to be associated with Griffith University, which is such an important part of the Gold Coast and its future.”
