Griffith offers UAC places for first time

Griffith University has made more than 350 offers to New South Wales (NSW) students through the University Admissions Centre (UAC) for the first time.

Griffith Academic Registrar Dr Richard Armour said this was the first year students could apply to Griffith’s Gold Coast campus through UAC.

“Griffith joined the NSW UAC system this year in response to feedback from key stakeholders in the region,” Dr Armour said.

“We are pleased to make hundreds of offers to well-qualified applicants.

“The Gold Coast campus attracts a large number of students from NSW, and our involvement with UAC gives these applicants the opportunity to select Griffith programs without undertaking dual application processes.”

Most Griffith applications through UAC were from Northern NSW region to study through the university’s Gold Coast campus.

Positions were also offered through QTAC as in previous years, with Griffith bucking the tightening trend in the higher education market, experiencing growth in first preferences and in the overall quality of applicants.

“We are pleased to see the standard of applicants offered places at Griffith improve across many disciplines this year, including many increased OP cut offs in law, business and arts,” Dr Armour said.

“We continue to experience growth in many of our new degrees – including offers made for our aviation degree growing by 76 per cent since being introduced last year.

“Meanwhile our new Bachelor of Business (Real Estate and Property) opened strongly this year with 73 applicants offered places. And Griffith’s OP cut offs for popular programs at the Queensland College of Art and the Queensland Conservatorium have increased by one or more bands.”

“Interstate Year 12 first preference applications from QTAC are also up 10 per cent from 2007.”

Griffith anticipates making further offers to NSW applicants in subsequent UAC rounds.
