The two-day conference features an outstanding line up of leading international, national, and local criminologists and psychologists on violent offending behaviour across the life course.
Griffith University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Arts, Education & Law) Professor Paul Mazerolle said it was a unique opportunity to learn about the latest research on such issues, as well as to find out more about effective policy and program responses to crime and violence for youthful and adult offenders.
“The links between research and effective policy responses, for preventing crime and violence represents a major conference theme,” Professor Mazerolle said.
Presentations include those on: sexual violence, youth violence, chronic offending, risk and protective factors for violence, the role of schools in preventing youth violence, domestic violence, effective policy responses to offending.
Among the keynote speakers are Professor Alex Piquero from Florida State University and Professor James Ogloff from Monash University.
Professor Piquero’s presentation — What can Alice in Wonderland Teach Us about Criminal Careers and Life-Course Criminology — will review the foundations of developmental/life-course criminology, research findings.
It will provide an overview of the public policy efforts aimed at preventing the onset of serious and persistent delinquent and criminal careers, as well as effective programs that reduce chronic offending.
Professor Ogloff’s presentation — The Long-Term Sequelae of Child Sexual Abuse — will examine the impact of child sex crimes on former victims.
