Governor-General launches Council of Elders

Governor-General Quentin Bryce AC launched Griffith University’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Council of Elders today at the University’s Logan campus.

The Griffith University Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Council of Elders was created by formalising the network of Griffith Elders-in-Residence and other Griffith community Elders.

Four Griffith Elders were signatories to the Council of Elders document: Uncle Graham Dillon, Aunty Delmae Barton, Aunty Anne Chapman and Uncle Thomas Sebasio.

By working together with Griffith students and staff, the Council aims to position Griffith as a place that encourages Indigenous people to study and work at the University in the spirit of partnership, reconciliation and respect.

The University was very pleased to endorse the Council formally in April 2010 and is strongly supportive of the shared goals of Griffith and its Indigenous community.
