Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is the national policy for regulated qualifications in Australian education and training. The AQF was first introduced in 1995 to underpin the national systems of qualifications in Australia encompassing higher education, vocational education and training, and schools.

Over the past two years work has been undertaken to update and strengthen the AQF and in July 2011 the first edition was launched for use by the higher education sector, ‘from the date of commencement of the regulatory functions of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA)’, which is currently proposed as 30 January 2012.

Organisations authorised to issue Australian qualifications such as Griffith are to have policies and processes in place in sufficient time to transition to full implementation of the AQF by 1 January 2015. Academic Administration is managing this transition under the leadership of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic).
