A hard road to walking the beat

Current criminology student and Police Liaison Officer Simon Ayiik shared his experiences as a refugee with Brisbane Times.

Simon was forced to flee Sudan when he was nine years old when government troops were systematically attacking villages. One of South Sudan’s 25,000 lost boys, he trekked thousands of kilometres by foot – starving and stumbling with exhaustion – to refugee camps in Ethiopia and then in Kenya.
