Artist Miles Hall has secured Australia’s richest regional drawing award — the JADA (Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award) from the Grafton Regional Gallery.
The Queensland College of Art alumni and Fine Art Sessional Academic in the Bachelor of Fine Art Program was awarded $15,000 acquisitive prize money for his drawing entitled “Eyes closed. Feeling for Noon and Night”.
Beating 49 other finalists for the top prize, his work is now included in the Grafton Regional Gallery’s nationally recognised collection of Australian contemporary drawing.
The JADA provides Australian artists with the unique opportunity to explore the complexity of drawing by encouraging and promoting innovation and excellence within the field. It attracts entries from established and emerging artists from across the country, with finalists selected by a panel of renowned museum and gallery professionals.
Miles now joins the ranks of previous JADA winners including Michael Zavros, Peter Alwast, John Philippides, Thomas Spence, Jon Cattapan, Maria Kontis, Gordon Bennett and Godwin Bradbeer.
Earlier this year, Miles was also awarded the 2012 Australia Council Paris studio, which will see him undertake a three-month residency at Cite des Arts in the heart of Paris. Here he will produce work for an exhibition in February 2013 with his French dealer at Galerie AL/MA.
