Designed to motivate kids and encourage schools in India to participate in athletics, the SpeedStar program hopes to generate interest and awareness for the most natural form of sport – running.

SpeedStar is a national athletics competition developed by KOOH Sports (Kids Out Of Home) to identify the fastest Indian boys and girls in the under 12, under 14, and under 16 categories.

The national final was held in Mumbai in February and the prize for the winning runners was a trip to Brisbane for a week, where they have been the special guests of Griffith International.

The young athletes attended a seminar on nutrition and ‘fueling’ the human body for physical activity with Dr Ben Desbrow, from the School of Public Health at the Gold Coast campus, before experiencing a tour of the campus facilities.

The high schoolers also received a presentation at Griffith’s Nathan campus by Mr Duncan Free OAM, Manager of the Griffith Sports College, where they learned of the University’s strong commitment to fostering elite athletes by helping them to play sport whilst studying.
