Perspectives:Asia- India Large and Small

On Thursday May 16th, Griffith Asia Institute and GOMA in conjunction with Encounters:India was very proud to present “India Large and Small: Contemporary Indian Culture in the World”.

This panel discussion included three prominent members of the Indian arts/cultural community.

Ms Shubha Mudgal is a Khyal singer and has trained with some of the finest musicians and musicologists in India.

Dr Anuparma Kundoo is a senior lecturer in the school of architecture at the University of Queensland. She has used innovative approached to architecture the incorporate both the traditional methods used in India with sustainable use of materials and energy.

Mr Anupam Sharma is a director of Film and Casting Temple. He is a film maker, authour and international consultant on Indian Cinema.

The panel members candidly discussed the issues that the Indian arts are currently facing and the loss of culture in many cases. They all felt more needed to be done to protect Indian arts culture as a whole, and not just what has been popularized such as Bollywood.

The panel was chaired by Mr Russell Storer, Head of Asian and Pacific Art Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art. Dr Ashutosh Misra, Research Fellow Griffith Asia Institute, represented Griffith University and delivered the final address.
