Mr Thomas Burn, British High Commission visits Griffith Asia Institute.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague last year launched an initiative to try to end the widespread culture of impunity towards the use of sexual violence in conflict. What’s happened so far, what’s planned for the future, and how can Australia and Australians contribute? Mr Thomas Burn, Second Secretary, British High Commission addressed this questions in his presentation Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict: Galvanising the International Community to Greater Effort’.

Thomas Burn works on foreign and security policy issues at the British High Commission in Canberra. In this role he engages with Australian government and civil society to identify opportunities for UK-Australia cooperation to address global issues of shared concern. He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2003 and previously served as Political Officer at the British Embassy in Iran (2006-09), and as head of Operaiton in the FCO’s Crisis Management Department (2009-10).
