Young musicians collaborate with nationally respected conductors

Students listening to music

85 young musicians gathered for an intensive and inspirational music-making program in Cairns last week at the annual State Honours Ensemble Program (Middle School).

Presented by Open Conservatorium, this program gives nominated Middle School (years 6 to 9) wind, brass, percussion and string students the unique opportunity to collaborate with two nationally respected conductors and their own musical peers from throughout the North Queensland region.

Students experienced the conducting and educational expertise of The Australian Band, Orchestra Association national president Jemima Bunn conducting the wind ensemble, and string conductor and educator Emma Dron conducting the string ensemble.

The weekend program finished with a grand finale concert on Sunday afternoon.
