Seventeen public sector officials from the strategically important Indonesian province of Papua have attended a training program on human resource development at Griffith University’s this month.
At the opening ceremony for the group, the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, his Excellency Nadjib Riphat Kesoema, said the specially-designed course at the Nathan campus was an important step forward for the province.
The course is funded by AusAID through its Australia Awards Fellowships program.
His Excellency highlighted Griffith University’s continuing relationship with Indonesia which also included the AusAID-funded training program for the Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan (BPKP), the Financial and Development Supervisory Board of the Indonesian government BPKP in January this year.
The 17 officials from West Papua will study the role of an HRD strategy; the development and implementation of a strategy; and finally leadership skills to implement their learning upon their return to Papua in Indonesia.
Course leader for the program is Dr Peter Woods, a Senior Lecturer of Management and a member of the Department of International Business and Asian Studies. Dr Woods currently co-leads the Indonesia research group at the Griffith Asia Institute.
The program’s management has been facilitated by the International Business Development Unit.
Griffith University was the first university in Australia to develop a program around Asian studies in the 1970s, a platform the university has consistently built on.
