Students at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University were today treated to a special master class from one of Britain’s best loved sopranos, Lynne Dawson.
With more than 80 international recordings under her belt, Lynne has worked with major orchestras from Leipzigewandhaus, the Concertgebouw, San Francisco Symphony, La Scala Milan, Chicago Symphonyand Berlin Symphony, and is renowned for having also sung at the funeral of Princess Diana with the BBC Singers.
Students from a range of courses were invited to attend the vocal master class to learn from a true professional with more than 30 years experience and wisdom.
According to Director, Professor Scott Harrison, it was another fantastic opportunity for students to draw on international experience.
“Being up close and personal with someone of Lynne’s experience and background is an incredible chance for many of our emerging singers to see what life is like as a professional,” he says.
“To hear her stories and see firsthand her techniques demonstrated on stage at the Queensland Conservatorium will be an afternoon not many will soon forget.”
Along with her celebrated career on stage, Lynne began teaching five years ago and has since taught at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (where she is now head of vocal studies), the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona, at York University, the Royal Danish Conservatory, the Dutch National Opera Academy and Den Haag and Codarts Conservatories, The Netherlands.
The Queensland Conservatorium and Royal Northern College of Music share an ongoing partnership to explore future exchanges and opportunities between Australia and the UK.
