A high ranking Japanese institution, Hiroshima University (HU), visited Griffith University on 24 February 2015 to further discuss collaborations regarding the Master of Environment degree.
HU has had ongoing discussions with Dr Peter Davey, Program Director Master of Environment (Environmental Protection specialization), Griffith School of Environment, regarding a proposal for a Cooperative Education Peace and Environment International University Consortium project funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Ranked 47 on the QS Asia University Rankings in 2014, HU are quickly expanding their internationalization agenda and are keen to set up a collaboration in the master degree program in Environmental Science.
The two year Griffith University Master of Environment offers multiple specialisations, including: Climate Change Adaptation; Economics and Policy; Education for Sustainability; Environmental Planning; Environmental Protection; Sustainable Business; and Water Resources.

Dr Davey has also been active in developing a reciprocal short-term summer semester program which has seen students from both HU and Griffith participating each year since 2012.
Hosting on alternate years, the HU program is planned around their 6 August Hiroshima Peace Ceremony, whilst the most recent Masters of Environment Summer School / Field Study Program was hosted by Griffith University. Offered from 22 – 27 February 2015, the Griffith program offered the theme: Protecting the Environment for future generations — Coastal Management, National and Marine Parks. Since its inception in 1975, Griffith has had an ongoing commitment to the environment and sustainability. In 2010 Griffith reinforced its sustainability commitment when it signed up to the UN Global Compact – the world’s largest voluntary corporate and sustainability initiative.
