Griffith University athletes have continued their good form at the 2015 FINA world swimming championships in Kazan, Russia.
After Sunday’s first day of competition saw Emma McKeon win gold in the 4x100m women’s relay and Jess Ashwood take bronze in the 400m freestyle, yesterday’s events have Griffith swimmers well placed for more medals after recording excellent qualifying performances.
Jess Ashwood is in the news again, this time lowering her Australian 1500m record by swimming 15:56.52 to qualify third fastest for this week’s final.
One of Australia’s top fancies at the titles, Cameron McEvoy, has qualified third fastest for the men’s 200m freestyle final, although David McKeon missed out.
Madi Wilson has qualified third fastest for the women’s 100m backstroke final, but Lorna Tonks did not make it through to the final of the 100m breaststroke.
Emma McKeon placed fourth in last night’s 100m butterfly final.
Griffith University has eight representatives on the Australian Dolphins world championship team. All are members of theGriffith Sports College.
