Academics on domestic violence prevention council

Two Griffith University academics have been appointed to the newly-established Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Council.

The councilhas been set up by the Queensland Government to monitor implementation of recommendations fromtheNot Now, Not Ever: Putting an End to Domestic and Family Violence in Queenslandreport and the Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Strategy.

Dr Shannon Spriggs Murdoch, Director of the Mentors in Violence Prevention Program andDr Kathleen Baird, Senior Lecturer in Midwifery and Director of Education Midwifery and Nursing were appointed to the 15-person council chaired by the Honourable Quentin Bryce AD CVO withrepresentation from key sectors in the community.

“I am looking forward to working with the council to ensure the necessary changes happen in Queensland to make women and children safer,” Dr Spriggs Murdoch said.

Dr Baird said she was honoured and privileged to be asked to join the domestic and family violence council.

“Iam looking forward to working with such a diverse and talented group of professionals to ensure the recommendations of the Queensland TaskForce are implemented.”
