Griffith Health is pledging its commitment to the Close The Gap agenda this Thursday (17 March) as the Indigenous health campaign marks its tenth anniversary.

Over the past year Griffith Health has established a First Peoples Health Unit (FPHU); it is currently developing a FPHU strategic Plan 2016-2022, which is yet to be endorsed by the Health Group board.

“This is an important date for the Health Group given our commitment to the Closing The Gap agenda,” says Professor of First Peoples Health Roianne West.

“Griffith is also the first university nationally to apply the recently federally-endorsed ATSI Health Curriculum Framework including a research framework,” she says.

More than 100,000 are expected to take part in the national Close the Gap Day this week and to find out what’s been achieved over the past decade. Last year, more than 150,000 people took part in 1,596 separate national Close the Gap day events across the country.

This Thursday’s event at Griffith’s Gold Coast Campus is aiming to have 1,000 Griffith staff and students come along and sign the pledge to ‘close the gap’.
