Three graduates of Griffith University will lead a team from The Star Entertainment Group at two networking events in April, starting at the Nathan campus tomorrow (Tues).

Mark.webMark Mackay (right), Chief Operating Officer; Leith Wiblen, Qld General Manager Human Resources; and Amanda Spencer, SEQ Recruitment Manager will be available to discuss internship and employment opportunities with students across the university at the Red Zone from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

The Star Entertainment Group is one of the groups behind Brisbane’s multi-billion Queen’s Wharf project which will incorporate five new hotels, an integrated resort including a casino and a link across the Brisbane River to South Bank.

“We’re looking to let the students know who we are as a company, what our brand stands for and what career opportunities we have right now and what opportunities are there for them in the future,” Amanda Spencer said.

“Getting their foot in the door now would not only give them a casual job but would also cement their future.”

Amanda graduated from Griffith with degree in behavioural science in 2004. Mark Mackay studied commerce, and Leith Wiblen (below, left) completed a business degree at Griffith University.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to ask them as many questions as they want,” Amanda said. “It is also a chance to get an insight into where we are going.”

Leith webStudents of tourism, hotel management, engineering, human resource management, arts and culture, accounting, event management and marketing are among those encouraged to attend either event.

“The extent of the project means students from all the study groups should also be excited about potential work experience prospects,” Dr Caroline Riot, Griffith Business School, said.

The second networking event takes place on the Gold Coast campus, also in the Red Zone, on Wednesday, April 27, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

“When I was studying here at Griffith I had two casual jobs both in retail,” Amanda Spencer said.

“One of those retail jobs landed my first job in HR. I started in the payroll department but it was through my hard work in that entry role that someone recognised the potential in me and saw that I was studying in that field.

“The number one thing I would recommend to students is that they put themselves out there and are working some sort of casual role while they are uni.”
