Gold Coast’s newest creative hub NightQuarter will host SEED’s Volume 5 album launch on Friday 20 May, kicking off the start of a six-week concert series.

Starring the finest emerging acts from Queensland Conservatorium’s Bachelor of Popular Music program, the launch will feature performances by electronic producerKeelan Mak, blues looping legendBenny D Williams, country darlingMikayla Jand infectious surf-pop bandTwelve Past Midnight.

Spanning a range of genres including moody electronica, alternative folk, progressive soul and reggae, SEED Volume 5 is proof of the diversity and the high-caliber nature of the talent sprouting from the Gold Coast.

In the past twelve months alone, eight acts were nominated in Triple J’s Hottest 100 and twelve acts were announced as finalists in the Queensland Music Awards.

Donna Weston, who leads the popular music program, says it’s safe to say that SEED is developing a reputation for being the Gold Coast’s music tastemaker.

SEED Volume 5 includes Keelan Mak, Benny D Williams, Mikayla J, Twelve Past Midnight, AUSTEN, Angus Oastler, Pirates of the Tempest, AthenaJoy, Jake Fox and Kirsty Abrahams.

“The launch of Volume 5 marks a point where the ‘seeds’ planted with the initiation of the program five years ago, are beginning to really bloom,” she says.

“The high visibility of our students in the QMA awards and Triple J nominations shows that what we are trying to achieve here is really working.

“Record numbers of paid performances and industry connections for our SEED artists are further evidence of that.”

Since kicking off in 2012, SEED has grown from a single compilation album release to an extensive emerging musician development program.

Each year the Bachelor of Popular Music students’best songs are compiled into an album and distributed online.

Selected artists then receive genuine career building and learning experiences, industry connections and numerous high-profile performance opportunities.

This year, SEED Volume 5 can be downloaded for free via Bandcamp. Listen to the album.
