Design Practices exhibition series goes global

The fourth iteration of renowned traveling exhibition, Design Practices is set for Pennsylvania and London, thanks to a collaboration with Queensland College of Art (QCA) Design Lecturer, Dr Beck Davis.

Connectivity and co-design are integral themes of Design Practices, so it is fitting that Curator, Dr Katherine Moline (UNSW) has collaborated with Dr Peter Hall (Central St Martins in the UK) and Dr Beck Davis to tour the exhibition to Carnegie Mellon University in the United States at the end of 2016, and to an artisan gallery in London in 2017.

The touring exhibition is reworked for each venue, having previously featured at the University of New South Wales, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University Design Hub, and most recently at the Griffith University Art Gallery at the QCA in Brisbane.

Griffith Artworks Director, Angela Goddard, said the previous Design Practices exhibition worked across the frontiers of contemporary art and experimental design.

“The exhibition included robotics, interactives, gaming platforms, mapping devices, typography and most importantly, innovative approaches and creative thinking by a host of extraordinary individuals and collaborative groups from around the world.”

Curator talks form a significant role in the exhibition series, with contributors speaking at public programs, workshops, panel discussions and floor talks about the works in each exhibition, specifically created to represent the notion of ‘design in process’ or ‘design in flux’.

The exhibition series aims to apply innovative approaches and creative thinking to the pressing social and environmental issues of our time.

Increasing connections with global education institutions and relevant communities will present unique opportunities for QCA Design staff and students into the future.
