New Bachelor of Education degree to start in 2017

In 2017, Griffith University’sSchool of Education and Professional Studies will launch the new Bachelor of Education degree.

By studying this innovative degree, students will be among the first to meet the new national accreditation requirements of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership and be equipped to teach in primary or secondary settings, depending on their choice of Major.

Students can also complete their degree in just three and a half years, giving them a head start in their teaching career, says Professor Donna Pendergast, head of the School of Education and Professional Studies.

“They will study a foundation first year which will equip them with a thorough understanding of teaching and learning and the teaching profession from a global perspective, with a focus on digital learning,” she said.

“Students will then select a Major in either primary or secondary education from their second year, with the option to study a double major.

“All students will undertake professional practice which includes observation and participation in schools, practice teaching, internships and community field studies every year as part of their studies, ensuring they graduate with a wealth of practical experience and networks.
