The Griffith Asia Institute (GAI), in collaboration with the Centre for Australian Studies (CAS) at Yonsei University in Korea and the Korea Association of International Development and Cooperation (KAIDEC), has proudly been awarded a 2-year project grant from the Australia Korea Foundation (AKF) to build research networks between Australia and Korea.
The project will involve GAI, CAS and KAIDEC jointly undertaking a collaborative early career researcher exchange whereby Korean and Australian researchers will be selected to undertake joint studies in the areas of international development, tourism, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and education & training. All studies will examine public policy implications to enhancing the overall bilateral relationship. These studies will be conducted over two years with public seminars in Brisbane and Seoul to present study outcomes and policy recommendations to Australian and Korean stakeholders.

Over the last decade, the Griffith Asia Institute (GAI) has made a significant contribution to building high-level dialogue with Korean government, institutions, and individual academics and experts through a variety of successful initiatives. These include an annual Australia Korea Dialogue (since 2013), and other initiatives aimed at increasing public awareness of the nature and significance of the bilateral relationship.

GAI has a proven track record in delivering high impact events and projects with institutions from a range of countries in the Asia-Pacific. In addition to the intrinsic value of the Dialogue, GAI’s Australia Korea initiatives have yielded a series of tangible outcomes, including policy papers, refereed publications, and the promotion of cooperation among Australian and Korean experts.
