Griffith is among the leading universities in Australia when it comes to student satisfaction.
A new report, published on April 12 by the Federal Government, places Griffith University at number two in the country amongst publically funded universities after students across Australia were surveyed about their entire educational experience. Griffith was ranked fifth overall.
The annual Student Experience Survey, carried out by the Social Research Centre, is the only comprehensive survey of current higher education students in Australia. About 178,000 undergraduate students participated in the 2016 survey, which focused on six quality indicators in learning and teaching.
“Griffith outperforms the national average in all six of the survey’s focus area indicators,” Professor Debra Henly(left), Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), said. “Our students registered an overall satisfaction rate of 84.2% which is notably higher than the 80% national average.”
Along with the overall quality of educational experience, the other five indicators in the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) survey are teaching quality; learner engagement; learning resources; student support; and skills development.
Griffith ranked in the top 10 for five of the six indicators, with teaching quality also placed in the top five.
Occupational therapy students were the most satisfied students at Griffith, scoring the quality of their overall experience above 90%. They were closely followed by students of social work, tourism, hospitality, personal services, sport and recreation whose satisfaction rankings were also in the nineties.
Students of architecture, dentistry, nursing, social work, science and maths all ranked comfortably above the national average, with architecture rising by 5.3% from the 2015 result to 89.2%.
“Griffith University is recognised as one of the country’s leading universities, scoring well above the national average for every QILT indicator, including teaching quality, learning engagement, learning resources and skills development,” Professor Henly said.
“In the important area of student support, we rank 7% higher than the national average.”

The Student Experience Survey is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training and in 2016 was administered by the Social Research Centre.
