Health sector boost for PNG

A cohort of twenty-two Australia Awards short course awards recipients from Papua New Guinea recently began their six-month journey in health economics with Griffith University and Griffith Asia Institute.

The participants are completing a Graduate Certificate in Health Economics that aims to aid decision making when allocating health resources more efficiently.

Griffith University academics and staff have spent the past week in PNG providing a pre-course briefing and introductions to the program.

Participants have already started planning their key projects and fostering strong relationships which will see them through the program and beyond.

The program places emphasis on the importance of economic issues in healthcare and acknowledges the financial pressures on the health system in PNG.

Participants will emerge with critical skills in evidence-based decision-making regarding healthcare funding and be equipped to tackle the health issues facing their communities.

Australia Awards PNG short course opportunities build valuable people-to-people links both within Australia and within the Indo-Pacific region, enabling mid-career professionals and emerging leaders to tap into Australian expertise, gaining valuable skills and knowledge.
