Fifth Annual Cultural Research Postgraduate Symposium - Identities, Ideas, Ideologies

Principal speaker

Anita Harris

The Griffith Centre for Cultural Research (GCCR) and the School of Humanities are hosting Griffith's Fifth Annual Cultural Research Postgraduate Symposium, organised by postgraduates for postgraduates.

The theme for the symposium will be 'Identities, Ideas, Ideologies'.

This year's keynote speaker is Associate Professor Anita Harris from Monash University. Assoc. Prof. Harris is an ARC Future Fellow. Her current project is entitled 'Young People and Social Inclusion in the Multicultural City'. Her research interests include youth identities and culture, citizenship, participation, new politics, globalisation and multiculturalism. She is also a leader in the interdisciplinary field of girls' studies.

In addition to the keynote presentation, this year’s symposium will also feature a capstone speaker. Dr Inger Mewburn, the Director of research training at the Australian National University will deliver a capstone presentation. Dr Mewburn is the founder and managing editor of The Thesis Whisperer, a newspaper style blog dedicated to assisting research students doing a thesis. Her research interests include social media and blogging, and the research student experience. She is regular guest speaker at universities and in the media on research issues.

We seek to offer an open and inclusive academic space for emerging scholars to shape and develop their work, contributing to a broader discussion on contemporary negotiations of identities, as well as on ideas and ideologies that inform their construction in late modernity.

The one-day symposium will include multiple themed sessions where students will present papers-in-progress and a keynote presentation from Associate Professor Harris.

Registration & Symposium Hub - Clinical Sciences 2, G16_1.08 (end of University Drive).
