Have you heard about knowledge translation?
Do you know what it is and how it applies to healthcare research?
Knowledge translation (KT) bridges the gap between research and real-world practice. It addresses both the dissemination of information and the implementation of evidence into practice in an effort to strengthen health systems and improve health outcomes. Although there is a growing body of evidence on what works and how best to implement health systems interventions, health care professionals and health systems are not optimally adopting research into practice.
This seminar offers an introduction to KT and how it can inform both research and practice, providing a broad overview of how KT connects the research pipeline to clinical practice in order to benefit patients. The seminar is beneficial for anyone interested learning more about how KT relates to their own work.

BIOGRAPHY
Dr Sharon Straus is a geriatrician/general internist/clinical epidemiologist; Director of the Knowledge Translation (KT) Program at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s; Deputy Physician-In-Chief, St. Michael’s; and, Vice Chair, Medicine (Mentorship, Equity, Diversity) and the Division Director for Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto.
She holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Translation and Quality of Care and has obtained more than $30 million in peer-reviewed research grants as a principal investigator. She has authored three books. Evidence-based medicine: How to practice and teach it is in its fourth edition, and has been published in 8 languages; Knowledge Translation in Health Care, is now in its second edition; and with David L. Sackett, the first edition of Mentorship in Academic Medicine.
Dr Julia Moore leads the Team for Implementation, Evaluation and Sustainability (TIES) at the Knowledge Translation (KT) Program in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital. Dr. Moore has worked on over 50 knowledge translation / implementation grants and contracts in prevention, health care, education, and mental health. She manages a team of 20 research coordinators and assistants supporting the implementation, evaluation, and sustainability of evidence in practice. For example, she is working with Public Health Ontario supporting them in embedding implementation science into their processes. She also manages several local and international guideline dissemination and implementation projects for the Public Health Agency’s Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care and the World Health Organization.
