Across the social sciences qualitative researchers emphasise the importance of reflexivity. In fact, being reflexive is often seen as a hall-mark of high-quality qualitative research.
This workshop introduces you to the concept of reflexivity, canvassing different definitions of the term and discussing their epistemological foundations. Drawing on a wide range of examples from fields as diverse as education, business, psychology and medicine, the workshop identifies the ways in which reflexivity can be operationalised in qualitative research projects. It also canvasses debates on the limits and challenges of reflexivity. Students will be encouraged to share their own plans for undertaking reflexive qualitative research or discuss their experiences as reflexive qualitative researchers.
