A Soft Place to Land is a collaborative investigation using found and natural objects (materials?) as a mediator of the body, lineage, and memory within spaces. As a contemporary collective we explore beyond traditional means of creation and image-making to focus on aspects of intimacy and introspection inherent in our individual practices. Using methodologies that allude to growth, repair, and continuity to create materially conscious structures within environments wherein rigidity and fragility coexist. Our conceptual premises ebb and flow yet intersect at themes of embodied experience. Our practices each navigate the tension between the historical use of mediums and subversion of material and painterly traditions. An antithetical approach to disembodied or immaterial art forms, A Soft Place to Land is thoroughly grounded in auratic presence and intimate engagement with materials. Mediating the relationship between body and space, A Soft Place to Land quietly asks us to consider how gently we move through our world.
