Dr Anna Powles is a senior lecturer with the Centre for Defence and Security Studies at Massey University, New Zealand, specialising in geopolitics and security in the Pacific Islands region. Her current research projects examine the operation of the Australia-New Zealand alliance in the Pacific; how strategic competition is intersecting with local dynamics in the Pacific; and the shaping of Pacific regional architecture and order.
